I started reading Fifty Shades of Grey. Long story. That I won’t go into here. I’m not expecting much, which is probably too much, according to what I’ve heard.
I listened to Taylor Swift’s Red. Full disclosure: This happens as many as three times a day. (FYI Mumford and Sons Babel and The XX Coexist are also in multiple-times-a-day rotations…)
I read my sample ballot and got confused. I’m voting for the first time in 16 years. I have no more confidence in the system than I have had previously, but I’ve seen Mary Poppins enough times to know women fought for the right to vote and I shouldn’t take that for granted. That being said, I’m really torn on this whole condoms-in-porn proposition.
I did some laundry. Sheets too! (Which means at some point I’m going to have to wrestle sheets onto my bed. Deep pockets, y’all!)
I made plans for Halloween night and this wkend in San Diego.
I looked at flights for Christmas (StL) and New Years (Austin).
I scoured the interwebs for a job.
I learned the high school near my house played Dewey High in Growing Pains. (In case you didn’t know, I really love Growing Pains.)
I watched an episode of Growing Pains. The one called Fast Times at Dewey High.
I emailed two people in occupations I would like to see myself in one day and asked them for advice.
This is pretty much what you expected my life was like, no? (PS Sometimes I babysit, so it’s not like this is every day. AND I almost went to the beach today, but decided to be productive instead.)
I’d like to thank the people who have recently asked me where I’ve been (blogwise)…it’s interesting to find out people actually read this, and I apologize profusely for my lack of tenacity with keeping up with it lately. Truth is, I basically write a blog mentally every day in the shower. It just rarely makes it out of my head.
Pop culture wise:
I just saw The Loneliest Planet last night. It pretty much exemplifies my theory that you never know someone until you travel with them. In my travels, I’ve met a number of couples on lengthy trips before exchanging vows, and I hope to do the same when the time comes for me. You learn so much.
The thought came with the disappointment that my savings isn’t what it once was, and I am no longer in a place where I can just drop everything and go somewhere. Truth be told, I’ve been more panicked in the two weeks since my most recent gig ended than I was for the entire year of unemployment leading up to it. Good times! I’m workin’ on it tho!
Other movies I’ve seen and loved recently: Argo and Pitch Perfect. So great. So so great.
I’m seeing Lincoln and Hitchcock later this week, so fingers crossed for those two.
TV-wise, still glued to Parenthood. That show is nothing short of wonderful. I’m also obsessed with Homeland. I caught up on the first season during the first week of the second season and now OMG Angela Chase is on FIRE!
In online dating news, I ended things with one guy over email (I know.), another over text (I KNOW!), and started hanging out with someone I met in real life.
Humble brag alert: in a 24-hour span this previous Fri/Sat…I successfully entertained a two year old and a seven month old; I made (from scratch!) all the hors d’oeuvres (stuffed mushrooms, brie/fig bites, bruschetta, and deviled eggs) for a wine and app party I hosted for my sister; and I sewed my skunk Halloween costume. (On Sunday I volunteered, and then rested a lot.)
In the coming days I’m going to dig around my brain for the blogs I wrote whilst in the shower (it’s where I do my best thinking)…I’ll even stand in the shower for lengthy periods of time in an effort to call them up. And I’ll do that for you.
Thanks for reading.
